Internet art and Internet culture in Hungary in the 1990s and 2000s. A research project by Flóra Barkóczi

András Kapitány: ParaSitE, 1998

Parasite is an online adaptation and expansion of András Kapitány’s earlier computer-based work. The project explores themes of dependency, intrusion, and co-existence within digital systems. By transitioning the piece to an online platform, Kapitány extends its reach and interactivity, allowing it to metaphorically “inhabit” the virtual space as a parasitic entity. The work reflects on the interplay between host and parasite, mirroring the dynamics of digital networks and how they facilitate or disrupt relationships. By doing so, it encourages viewers to consider the nature of systems, connections, and the unseen elements that influence our interactions with technology.
