Imre Weber: Virtual Gallery – Three Virtual installation, 1997

Weber Imre’s Three Virtual Installations explore themes of transience and transformation, blending art, science, and technology. The works reflect the universal essence of objects while simultaneously inhabiting architectural human spaces and cosmic-natural realms. Presented in the MTA SZTAKI World Wide Web Gallery, these “vanishing sculptures” serve as digital imprints, preserving the conceptual essence of physical objects that no longer exist. Weber’s network mobiles merge magical and scientific qualities, enhanced through Java-based technology, symbolizing the modern artist’s collaboration with science and technology to reclaim a golden age where art and knowledge were unified. The third installation reimagines two-dimensional representations of transient sculptures within virtual space, restoring their three-dimensional essence and sculptural reality. These works, which contemplate decay and impermanence, are also a product of collaboration within MTA SZTAKI’s Distributed Systems Department, exemplifying the evolving intersection of art and technology.
