The International Corporation of Lost Structures (ICOLS) project was an international artist-driven, cross-cultural collaborative organization that explored contemporary issues through creative and conceptual interventions, founded by Suzanne Treister in 2000. János SUgár’s contribution in 2004 was characterized by socially reflective, conceptual ideas that explored themes of communication, social participation, and urban intervention. His projects included “four saved ideas” – actually five ideas: 1. Public Phones, which offered free calls in exchange for publicizing recorded conversations. 2. Context Party, a silent dance experiment with music accessible only through headphones, highlighting social dynamics and inclusion. 3. Graffiti Saving, a project to preserve urban street art by casting inscriptions in bronze, transforming ephemeral expressions into lasting monuments. 4. The Fate of Secularized Decisions, a visual commentary on decision-making in modern society. 5. Public SMS, A public art project inviting people from Heidenheim and beyond to send anonymous SMS messages directly to the Mayor’s office, displayed unfiltered on a LED screen in a town hall window, viewable through a public telescope at the square.
The ICOLS project created a networked environment by publishing ideas online and connecting artists from different locations, functioning as a contact zone for the exchange of their concepts.
