Internet art and Internet culture in Hungary in the 1990s and 2000s. A research project by Flóra Barkóczi

Ádám Lendvai: Politics, 1998

Politics is an interactive web-based project that reflects on the political identity and representation through playful visual experimentation. Hosted in a simple HTML environment, the work allows users to mix and match facial features of various Hungarian politicians of the 1990s, effectively constructing their own “ideal politician.” This process emphasizes the interchangeability of visual elements, suggesting that political personas may be more about constructed appearances than substantive differences. By reducing the faces of politicians to modular components, Politics humorously challenges the perception of individuality and authenticity in political figures. The project invites participants to reflect on the superficial aspects of political branding, questioning whether leadership is often shaped more by aesthetics and image than by policies or values. This interactive engagement with the “creation” of a political face turns the user into a co-creator, blurring the boundaries between critique, satire, and participation in the political sphere.
