Gábor Bakos’s Personal Press Questionnaire was realized as part of the Personal Press Project Project (1997-), investigating the socio-economic conditions of contemporary art in Hungary, focusing on non-profit exhibition spaces and the treatment of artists’ labor. Through a detailed questionnaire sent to institutional directors, the project raises critical questions about honoraria, funding structures, and the recognition of artistic work as labor, while addressing systemic inequities within the art ecosystem. By documenting responses—or the lack thereof—from key figures in the Hungarian art scene, Bakos transforms sociological inquiry into an artistic statement, provoking dialogue about the value and precarious reality of artists’ work in an underfunded cultural environment.
