The Art Window (Kirakat) project is a series of exhibitions and a web project that reflects on the interconnection of online and offline space. As a street-front showcase in Budapest (Budapest 1015, Hattyú utca 10/c), Art Window Gallery (Kirakat Gallery) operated between 1999 and 2002 in a shop window for art projects and installations. Kirakat Gallery’s website was active between 2000 and 2001 as a net art project, which for a year displayed 12 works month by month in the shop window, extended the project into the online space. The 12 exhibitions were accompanied by 12 interactive web pages, reflecting the relationship between physical and virtual space as an online showcase, with numerous crossreferences. The two ‘windows’ were thematically linked, complementing each other, and the 12 exhibitions and works available online can be understood as a 12-phase process, as well.
