Gábor Erdei’s “WebTrap” cleverly blends interactivity and minimalism to create a digital experience that challenges perception and curiosity. The work appears as an empty white webpage, but hidden within it are hyperlinks that can also be accessed by modifying the last digits of the URL https://www.c3.hu/InterMedia/ig/gaga/inters01.html (ranging from 01 to 42). Each modification reveals one of 42 short enigmatic messages, such as “Semmi nincs, ez meglepő” (“There is nothing, this is surprising”). This playful yet philosophical piece invites users to actively engage with the interface, transforming a seemingly blank space into a repository of existential and witty reflections, also underscoring the idea that meaning often lies beneath the surface.
